I'm a little bit obsessed with gel manicures, so I am super excited the world's first at-home version is launching next month!

There have been so many in-salon long-lasting manicures launched since Shellac introduced the trend early last year.Only last week I tried another new version, this time from celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik (whose clients include Victoria Beckham and Jennifer lopez) which is the most robust I've tried. However, at £50 (Urban Retreat, Harrods) it's great, but not exactly affordable.

But, from next month a company called Red Carpet Manicure is launching the world's first at-home gel manicure in the US (with an impressive 36 shades to choose from) - great if you're a dab hand at painting your nails. Rather than UV light, as used with in-salon versions, this harnesses LED light to set the gel polish. The full system costs under $60, working out at around $2.90 for twenty at-home applications - a massive saving compared with $40 a pop for the in-salon service. If you're heading to the US later this year you can snap it up at Ulta stores, if not the products are bound to reach us in the UK next year. Here's hoping!
