If you were hooked on Perfume on BBC 4 like me, or you’re into your scent, then you’re probably already acquainted with Guerlain Shalimar – a truly iconic fragrance that has been hugely popular since its launch in 1925. At a recent press event Thierry Wasser (Guerlain’s Exclusive Pefumer) said that it’s often mentioned to him that Shalimar can be intimidating (the heady notes of bergamot, tonka bean and grey amber can only be described as a perfume lovers fragrance and it takes guts to wear it). Wasser has answered the request of the less gutsy fragrance lovers and created Shalimar Parfum Initial [£37 for 60ml edp] – the newest incarnation of possibly the world’s most famous oriental fragrance stays true to the original (the bergamot is still there) but the addition of caramel and warm fruit makes it more wearable.

So whether you are an avid fan or the original or even if you’re not, we urge you to try it.

Guerlain Shalimar Parfume Initial is out the 1st of August nationwide
