When the news broke in 2021 that beloved beauty brand Becca was to close, a stockpiling frenzy ensued.

The Australian make-up line – which was scooped up by Estée Lauder in 2016 and shuttered five years later – had cemented itself as the go-to for glowy skin-enhancing formulas: the kind that give you the angelic sheen of someone that hasn't spent the past three years clinging onto their sanity amidst a never-ending news cycle of doom.

The Becca roster was weighty, but a couple of creations in particular reached true cult status. The Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop will forever be remembered by frosty-cheeked Youtubers, but it’s another product in the line that many of us mortals, myself included, became obsessively attached to.

The Under Eye Brightening Corrector might not have been Becca’s buzziest product, but ask any make-up artist and they’ll tell you it was the brand’s best. The success is due to the subtlety: it’s a product that works hard to remain completely undetectable on skin, making dark circles and bluish tints vanish without leaving a giveaway powdery veil in their place.

The Under Eye Brightening Corrector was often duped yet never really matched: most alternatives either delivered too much frosty sheen, or went too far with the pigment, looking artificial and cakey under the eyes. But now – after many months of testing – I've found a spot-on replacement for my much-missed dark-circle banisher.

The winner is Beauty Pie's Superluminous Under Eye Genius (no, they aren't being subtle), and it's honestly an indistinguishable dupe for the much-missed original. The brand calls it '‎dark-circle concealing underwear' which is pretty accurate: sandwich it over a moisturising eye cream and under a lightweight concealer, and watch all traces of that third negroni vanish before your eyes.

So, what exactly is this wonder product? It's not quite a concealer, but rather a skin brightener. Instead of relying on heavy, opaque pigment to sit on top of dark circles, it uses smart reflective pigments to bounce light back out from the under-eye area, making skin appear brighter without actually covering it up.

The three shades come with either pink, apricot or reddish undertones, working to neutralise sallow skin rather than simply masking it. For a dramatic bright-eyed effect, you can layer your regular concealer on top – with the shadows neutralised, it'll look so much better – but I prefer to wear it alone to knock back dark circles without feeling overly made up. The price is pleasingly fair too: members can bag one for £12, and for non-members it's £25.

Now, it seems I'm not the only that has discovered this true beauty hero: so popular is Beauty Pie's worthy impersonator, it's rarely actually in stock. (At the time of writing, you've got all three shades available, so click quickly).

If you are left facing a waitlist, you have other options. On my quest to fill the Becca-shaped hole in my make-up kit I did come across a few other contenders, which will receive an honourable mention here. NARS Radiant Creamy Colour Corrector is less glowy and more pigmented, offering more of a ‘make-up’ finish that’ll come in handy for the third consecutive Christmas party. The precision brush makes it ideal for targeted touch-ups too: try it over those pesky red veins that form around your nostrils.

Bobbi Brown’s Colour Corrector is another high-pigment option: with a dense, balm-like texture and huge shade range, it’s ideal for anyone who wants to look especially airbrushed. Just be sure to apply an eye cream beneath.

And for something that doubles up as a concealer and a primer, consider Makeup Revolution's Eye Bright Under Eye Corrector. It's similar to Beauty Pie's, but has a slightly tackier base that a liquid concealer or tinted powder will sit seamlessly on top of. What late night?
