So it’s been nearly 5 months since I first started my Invisalign treatment and I thought I’d update you on how it’s going. First up the improvements. Although of course this is what you’d think I would notice straight away (seeing as that’s the one thing I’m looking for) the improvements and changes have been so subtle that it’s taken a while to register. Friends who see me once a month or so are forever telling me my teeth look much improved but because I stare at my teeth all day, every day those tiny, almost impercetible changes are actually quite hard to notice. The first time I realised that a gap had closed up considerably was when I noticed I could no longer wiggle my tongue through it as I walked down the street. What a revelation! The more objectively I try to look (and it is hard) the more I realise how much they have changed. Not only has that gap begun to close they definitely look more aligned with each other – a smoother panel of teeth as it were, with less halting gaps and ridges.

Most astonishing of all though is my attitude towards my teeth and my smile. Whereas previously I would smile with my mouth closed or laugh behind my hand, my boyfriend and friends have noticed a rather different me who smiles more readily and freely, without stopping to shield my teeth. My treatment is scheduled to finish in a month or so but I suspect there might be another couple of months added on, just to iron out any last minute imperfections and make sure the result is as good as it can be. One thing is for sure though, I’m starting to not mind my teeth. And that is the biggest revelation of all.
