Obama makes polish political

Now, we don’t know about you but a nail polish is not likely to get us ticking that ballot box, but this has definitely got our attention. Forget designer collaborations, it’s all about presidential beauty collabs right now, namely Barack Obama’s hook-up with Le Metier de Beaute’s founder Richard Blanch on a nail set.

Barack Obama has an online store selling a whole range of products including the nail polish set, alongside T-shirts that say ‘#progress’, ‘Made in the USA’ and ‘Team Obama’. There’s even jewellery, bumper stickers and dog collars – that no doubt Bo (the president’s dog) had a paw in designing.

The nail set includes three nail polishes which are, of course, red, white and blue. Red-y to Win is by far the best pun, with the polish being a American flag red. Bo Blue is a ‘shimmering sapphire’ according to the website, while Victory White, which we think should have been called ‘Victory White (house)’ – they missed a trick there, is ‘for everyday wear’. The polishes come in a chic black make-up bag emblazoned with the Obama logo.

I don’t know about you, but we think the UK’s coalition need to up their beauty game. Would you wear a coalition coral on your nails, a Lib Dem yellow, or say a Sam Cam Tan shade?
