Having been to countless shows over the years and seen just about every make-up look you can imagine, it can be rather rare nowadays to see something that feels completely fresh and exciting. So imagine my enthusiasm last night upon arriving backstage at YSL where I was greeted by a sea of electric violet lips and beautiful sculpted boyish heads. Said lips weren't just gorgeous because of the colour (a deep, luscious purple) but because of the sharp, intricate way it had been carved on to faces. A wash of brown on lids offset the lips and Pat McGrath's signature polished, powdered skin finished the look.

Over at the hair station Redken's Guido was busy shaping heads into small perfectly formed and slightly mannish knots complete with charming, slicked side burns. All in all it was a mesmirising look that I couldn't wait to write about. Fast forward a couple of hours and a text beeps through from ELLE's ever watchful backstage photographer Mr Matt Lever (he's responsible for all our fabulous pictures). 'YSL have changed the lip in the line-up' it reads, and my heart sinks - I loved that lip! In its place was a nude, slightly pinkish beige lip. Pretty yes, but spectacular? I'm afraid not. Whatever the reason they decided to change it I'm a little disappointed but hey, fashion is fast-paced, I suppose I've just got to keep up. Scroll down for before and after shots...
