Exclusive: Behind the scenes at Mary Katrantzou

Ever wonder what it’s really like to go backstage at a fashion show? We went behind the scenes to speak with the designer Mary Katrantzou about the inspiration behind her autumn/winter ‘12 show. Plus, Wella Professional hairstylist Anthony Turner reveals how you can recreate the ‘we-want-it-now’ pom-pom up-do from the show.

The ELLE beauty team go backstage every season to bring you the insider info behind the hair and make-up at the shows. This video will take you behind-the-scenes and let you experience the great parts of being backstage.... from the comfort of your own living room/office (delete as applicable).

Katrantzou reveals how she came to take everyday items that you wouldn’t expect, elevating them and incorporating them into her bold, colourful designs: a bath, spoons, clothes hangers, a typewriter, the numbered buttons from an old fashioned dial phone.

The hair in contrast was simple and super pretty. A topknot – still as popular as ever – was placed right on top of the head and given a beautiful dishevelled texture. We might not all have bank balances that can stretch to a Katrantzou party dress, but we can all give the hair a try.

Watch below to see how you can recreate the hairstyle and hear what Katrantzou has to say about the show...
