I'm not a year-round fake tanner. I embrace my natural pale skin tone in the winter months, but this week I've been craving a tan. I think it's the fleeting sightings of the sun that have got me forward thinking to spring; I'm drawn to coral lipsticks and bronzers all of a sudden. But, I don't want to go from English Rose to Bronze Goddess overnight, instead I'm looking for complexion perfecting products.

St. Tropez's Skin Illuminators, £12 each (out next week), add a hint of sheen in Gold, Violet or Rose to skin, for a healthy boost. Use them alone or over tanned skin to highlight your arms, legs, decollete and cheek bones. If you're not sure which to choose, the Violet Skin Illuminator suits all skin tones. The Rose Skin Illuminator has catwalk credentials, St. Tropez Skin Finishing Expert Nichola Joss used it on models at the Erdem s/s 11 and suits skin with pink or blue undertones. And if your skin has natural golden or yellow undertones, enhance it with the Gold Skin Illuminator.

If a gold or rosy sheen isn't enough to sate your need for tan, look to St. Tropez's Gradual Tan Everyday Body, £14.30, and layer over with the Illuminators.

Just remember, right now in grey Britain, less is more...
