I have undergone transformation - slightly unexpectedly. I have been growing my hair long for months, years really. My visits to see my good friend and hair stylist extraordinaire George Northwood has always resulted in my emerging bouncy-haired from the salon with an "invisible trim".

Last week I popped in for my regular colour, and I was flirting with the idea of going shorter. In truth, it may have been a bit of hot hair and I wasn't mentally prepared for the snip.

Before I knew it, I was sat in front of the mirror with my hair cut way up to my shoulders. And here's the thing, and I'm not going to lie, I was a bit out of sorts. One has to be mentally prepared for these transitions after all.

But I've got used it now, and I love it. There's something about boldly cutting your hair, remembering the thickness at the bottom, and embracing something different that feels fresh and modern. You can get so stuck in your own style. So here's to a new year and new styles and thank you George for reminding me you have to knock yourself out of a style rut sometimes, even if it is slightly under duress!
