So I’m nearing the end of my running induction training (although my muscles don’t seem to know that). I can now happily put on my trainers and head off for a 20-minute run around the park. I’m still far from being an athlete but I am at least enjoying it.

I had another training session yesterday with Nike Master Trainer, Sonja Moses (picture above). This time we gave the gym equipment a miss (I still have nightmares about the Cross Trainer/Step Master machine), and instead spent some time in the studio doing exercises to strength my stomach, back, leg and arm muscles to enable me to run longer. After a warm up we spent a lot of time doing lunges and squats (my thigh muscles are paying the price today), then a routine of jumps, burpees, Russian swings, weights and bicep push-ups. Whenever I thought I couldn’t do any more, I pushed myself further and when I thought I couldn’t hold the side plank position any longer, I persisted. A month a go I would have given up.

This weekend, during my run around the park, I will be aiming for 30 minutes and a faster pace.
