Have you got your new April issue in hand? Turn to the beauty section on page 285 to see how punchy pastels set the tone for the new issue – this spring is pretty, with a twist.

The Trend:

My first thought? It’s going to be one of those ‘appreciate on the models/catwalk looks ridiculous in real life’ type of scenarios. Here goes nothing…

I pile on my trusted Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick and blend in with a Cover FX Foundation Brush for a dewy, medium-coverage finish (I’m not going into pastel eye territory without some major complexion back-up).

Next, I rummaged through the beauty cupboards to find a pastel green and baby blue eyeshadows. Blue was easy, I found a Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eyeshadow Palette in Serene with a range of different blue hues to play around with but green? Not so easy to find, even in our overflowing cupboard of all the latest products; I take this as a sign that it’s not going to go well.

Finally I stumble across a cream based green Diego Dalla Palma chunky Dual Color Eye Pencil & Kajal in 59, which I apply and blend in with my finger into an almond shape. I then repeat with the blue shadow and a brush on my opposite eye.

I embrace my bedhead (aka unwashed, greasy) hair and bung it up into a messy bun. Voila.

The result: Nobody in the office believed I would wear this out of choice, and several colleagues called me out on it. Jamie, Picture Assistant?: ‘erm, interesting #TrialATrend look you’re going for’. Phoebe, Art Designer, ‘I don’t like it’. Ah, all in a days work…

Not one I’ll be coveting again in the office, but who knows maybe I’ll add it to my festival repertoire.
