A couple of nights ago I attended Andrew Gallimore’s M.A.C Pro Texture Master Class to gain an insight in to how he uses different textures (gloss, glitter, oil and plastic to name but a few) in his many editorials, campaigns and shows. Andrew’s talents can often be seen in the pages of ELLE and he recently worked with our Georgia in creating ‘The Last Kiss’ for our October issue (seen above). His red velvet lip (which Andrew describes as ‘a dark Tim Burton fairytale’) also made an appearance in our fashion shoot ‘Swing Out Sister’ in the November issue, here Andrew explains how to achieve it using M.A.C (prepare yourself, its not quick but definitely worth it!)

1. Use Lip Pencil in Redd, £10 to line around the whole mouth – take the line ever so slightly over the edge for a full lip. Using a pencil first will help you map out the look you are going for.

2. Paint on Lipstick in Russian Red, £12.50, using a lip brush. A brush will easily follow the shape of the lips and allow you to get a sharp edge.

3. With Lip Pencil in Nightmoth, £10, a dark black cherry, fill in the corners of the mouth and contour towards the centre. Re-line the mouth with the darker pencil and blend it in.

4. Put a little on the back of your hand and using a brush (we love 217 Blending Brush, £14.50) blend where the two shades meet on the lips.

5. Place a folded tissue under the mouth for damage limitation and start packing red Pigment, £15, onto the lips using a brush. The pigment is what give the lips that lovely velvet rose petal finish.

6. Wear the velvet lip with sporty, posh sweat skin which I created by mixing together Reflects Pearls and Clear Gloss in the palm of my hand and applying with a brush (these are M.A.C Pro products but Strobe Cream, £21, will give you a similar finish). Keep shine off the forehead, t-zone and sides of the nose where it can look unattractive.
