I’ve just come back from a chat with make-up artist Lisa Eldridge who shared with me her favourite look for this season. Lisa has coined it the Heavy Natural Look; the inspiration comes from the early 1990s when flawless skin, brown lipstick, brown eyes and sculpted cheeks were the trend. But how does Lisa advise you bring this look bang up-to date? “Choose products that have an almost imperceptible sheen.”

Technology has moved on since the early nineties, matte lipsticks used to be chalky and foundations heavy. Today, many foundations contain optical blurrers (light-diffusing particles) which will help you achieve a complexion that is radiant and full of life but still with a matte finish.”

If you’re unsure which brown hues to choose for you eyes, lips and cheeks, Lisa advises pale skintones wear taupe and tawny shades, while dark skintones need more orange or brick shades to prevent skin looking sallow.
