I love bold lipstick; give me a berry, fuchsia, orange, even a lilac and I'll happily wear it all day long. Bold eyeshadow is another thing entirely. I love neutral eyes, which is why the brown-eyed trend for the new season is right up my street (click here to see it now). But it's not autumn yet, there is still roughly six weeks of good - by British standards - weather to come. And right now the bright eye trend is huge. The look was showcased at shows like , and so it's not to be sniffed at. Celebrities have also got in on the act; some wear it well, others not so much. So here's how to get this look right and two stars who have flaunted bold eyes in different ways but both to brilliant effect.
"Despite popular belief, blues and greens are very versatile colours and can be used in both classic and dramatic ways" says Sue Devitt, an International Make-up Artist who has worked with everyone from Diane Kruger and Keira Knightley to Claudia Schiffer and Elle Macpherson.
Eva Mendes has got the look right by creating a brown smoky eye and adding a pop of colour by lining the upper lid with a bright blue. "Sea colours work well as an accent, so play it safe for daytime with just a slick of turquoise eyeliner" says Jemma Kidd, celebrity make-up artist. The blue shadow has been subtly blended so it's not too harsh.
Scarlett, on the other hand, has gone for a green smoky eye concentrating the colour at the lash line; the black liner and lashes add definition. "To create a flattering smokey eye, keep lighter shades on the eyelid and blend the darker shades into the lash line using a lash line definer brush- work the colour above and below the lash line creating a gorgeous smokey effect just like Scarlett" Sue told BND.
