Ridiculously sticky pink glitter lip gloss, Rachel Green-style feathered layers and black kohl eyeliner - they've all got one thing in common. Yup, for better or worse each one of these iconic noughties beauty trends is having a resurgence.

The latest retro addition? Shimmery pastel eyeshadow. Once relegated to the crumbling eyeshadow quad we picked up in Superdrug for worryingly less than we spent on our school lunches, rainbow pastel eyeshadow is back. And the A-listers are into it.

From Bella Hadid's canary yellow eyes, to Priyanka Chopra's matchy matchy lilac shadow and skirt suit for the royal wedding, pastel brights have officially worked their way back onto the beauty agenda.

No longer just for school discos, this is how to work multi-coloured eyeshadow the 2018 way. R.I.P. nude smokey eye.

Who's wearing it... Elle Fanning working lime green eyeshadow with a bold black cat eye means pop art eye make-up is officially back on the fashion agenda. Neutral smokey eye who?

How to keep the noughties at bay... If you're worried that sweeping shimmery green eyeshadow onto your lids is a little close to your secondary school disco days then do as Philipp Plein SS18 does and opt for a softer wash in a blue-toned hue. Less lime, more fashwun. And you can keep the Elle Fanning cat eye too.

Who's wearing it... Vanessa Hudgens, Lily Collins and Jennifer Connelly all stepped out with an ode to the 60s/80s/00s (isn't cyclical fashion a wonderful thing?) via pastel blue eyeshadow.

How to keep the noughties at bay... Stick to one rule - up or down. Yup, it's all about either applying pastel blue eyeshadow in a clean dome shape on your upper eyelid, or drawn along your lower lash line with a smudgy finish. But bring the two together and be warned, you're in pastel noughties-ville and just a handkerchief top away from a make-up faux pas.

Who's wearing it... Possibly the most noughties pastel eyeshadow shade of all of them, Priyanka Chopra went matchy matchy with colour co-ordinated lilac eyes, skirt suit and royal wedding-worthy hat. Just add a tonal lipstick and a whole load of sass.

How to keep the noughties at bay... Bear with us on this one, because purple can be pretty. Leave the colour co-ordination to the A-list and go for a pop of purple on your lids (rather than an entire outfit). A super sheer wash of blue-toned eyeshadow or a hint of plum mascara on your lashes will make eyes pop with little to no effort.

Who's wearing it... Man of the match goes to Bella Hadid for her bright yellow eyeshadow and matching Dior power suit. But serious style pointed have to be awarded to Margot Robbie and her buttercup yellow lids for kicking the daring make-up trend off. A modernist take on traditional romantic make-up, that's how you make blue eyes look even bluer.

How to keep the noughties at bay... Embrace your inner new romantic by swapping your go-to taupe eyeshadow for a muted yellow shade to define your eye socket and lightly line your lower lids. For those wanting more of a Margot-esque pop of colour, dab a dot of bright yellow in the inner corner of your eye in place of highlighter. Think less Lichtenstein comic book girl, more high fashion heroine.
