A three-day hen weekend has seen off any Power Plate sessions since last Thursday. And as you can imagine, I am not feeling in the best shape after consuming my body weight in booze and carbs. But I’m itching to get back in the studio tonight for more training.

I have just four days before I leave for a wedding in France. Four days to slim down the previous weekend’s bloat and look toned in my dress. I am desperate to ditch the no work-out-on-consecutive-days rule and go every night but they are not keen on that idea. Apparently your body needs to rest and recover for a day between classes but this is an emergency. I may have to attend incognito…

Alice Watt, Fashion Assistant, Kettlebells at Virgin Active

After a tiring week I grudgingly headed to the gym on Friday for my next kettlebells session. Despite my lack of eagerness and energy the class was surprisingly fun - mainly due to the inclusion of the “opposing ball”.

For those who have never used or seen an opposing ball, it looks pretty much like a ball cut in half with a rubber board on top. The idea is to balance while squatting and lifting weights in order to tone and work the core muscles. But my apparent lack of any core stability at all made this an embarrassingly difficult exercise, resulting in me wobbling more than actually squatting. Despite the humiliation, focusing on staying stable took my mind of the exercises, made the class fun and I now have a new goal to work to when I head back to the gym later this week.

After the class I had a quick intro to the rest of the machines in the gym . As well as the cardio machines, I wanted to try out the weight machines, particularly those that can help my back. Now that I am fully trained I have no excuses so I’ll be heading to the gym as much as possible this week!
