Seeing as my weekly Zumba class alone is not going to transform my body shape into that of Jennifer Aniston, Yuliya has given me some exercises to do each day. I’m under strict instructions to do 20 of each as soon as I’ve got out of bed. I’ll level with you, I haven’t done them every morning (let’s hope Yulyia isn’t reading this) but enough that I don’t feel too guilty. And last Thursday I even got up extra early so that I had time to do my routine, vote and get to work on time. And it didn’t kill me.

So here’s what I’ve been doing: sit-ups; squats with my feet apart; squats with my feet together; girl push-ups (balancing on my knees rather than my toes); and donkey kicks (start on all fours and kick out one leg backwards. Repeat 20 times for each side.)

No miracle change has occurred so far, and I have had to endure a certain amount of hilarity on the part of my boyfriend, but they are getting easier. A-list-worthy, toned limbs here we come.

Carrie Gorman, Editor: Power Plates

Four sessions down and I’m hooked. The Power Plate class is over before it’s even begun, meaning that I no longer have to chose between having an evening and going to the gym. Here I can do both.

We’ve been doing circuit training which involves bench presses, tummy crunches, press-ups, pulsating lunges… you’re up and down off the machine like a yoyo and there is no breaking in between. You only do each exercise for a minute and it sounds pathetic but it gets pretty tough towards the end. I’m putting this down to the vibrations trippling how hard you’re working.

I haven’t made any concessions to my diet during this trial which I may have to start thinking about if I want to shed some pounds. Can I slim while still eating hearty, carb-filled suppers? Not with Thalgo toning products and Power Plate alone, I suspect…
