Detox while you sleep

For those of you who don’t know, January has been the ELLE team’s big detox month, where we’ve undertaken the extreme in order to get rid of the nastiness lurking in our bodies. My detox is now over (look out tomorrow for the final instalment in our journeys) and one would hope my body is free of toxins. But during a trip to Champneys Tring last weekend I had an interesting encounter with their Detox Patches, £14.99…

Both my boyfriend and myself tried out said patches, which you stick to the soles of your feet each night before bed, for seven consecutive nights. Based on reflexology theory, the idea behind the patches is that all the toxins circulating the body are drawn out through your feet and into the patch (which contain ingredients such as wood vinegar, tourmaline and pearl stone).

The first morning after, both my boyfriend and I ripped off the patches to examine the results. They were covered in what can only be described as sludgy, brown gunk – disgusting yet strangely satisfying. Interestingly though, the residue on my patches was much less than my boyfriend’s (he didn’t detox with me, who’s laughing now?), which were dripping with the stuff. Nice.

After two nights trying the patches mine were almost dry and, four days down the line, my boyfriend’s aren’t looking quite so horrific. So does it work? I haven’t felt any physical benefits yet, but seeing is believing and I’d far rather that gunk was on those patches than in my body.
