Nothing gives me more of a thrill than when the new season makeup collections arrive at ELLE, with their endless possibility of texture, colour and packaging. And this season is no exception thanks to SS10s obsession with everything pale, pretty and pastel.
But as much as I love lipsticks and polishes, its the palettes that really have my heart. My favourite, the Meteorites Voyage Exceptional Pressed Powder in 01 Mythic, £102, by Guerlain (above), consists of an ice cream-coloured face powder encased in a heavy metal palette that would feel out of place in my grubby make-up bag. Never mind the price tag, this ones a collectors piece.
Then theres Diors Poudrier Dentelle, £39 an illuminating powder with Diors signature lace pattern adorning both powder and packaging, not to mention Givenchys Le Prisme Blush in It Girl Purple, £27, a quad of rosy jewel-shaped powders.
When it comes to the eyes, YSLs carefully devised Ombres 5 Lumieres in 9 Parisian Sky, £37, combines sweet pink and violet shades with dusky plum and navy to help take the trend from day to night (making pastels sultry, not saccharine).
After all this, what Im trying to say is if you buy one thing this season make it a palette.
