I'm a big fan of the Lipstick Queen (AKA Poppy King) and her small, perfectly formed range of lip products. I met her last year and she really is passionate about her craft. But in October last year (I know, so last season, but these really are worth knowing about) she launched a new collection - Butterfly Ball Shimmer Treatment Lipsticks – that I was none too sure about – at first.

You see for me, lips should be matte or shiny. None of that shimmer stuff. Also, the claim that the turquoise shimmer (that’s where the butterfly link comes in, it mimics the iridescent effect of the insect’s wing) shot through the lipstick, is meant to make teeth whiter? I wasn’t convinced.

But this week the sceptic in me got her comeuppance when I tried Butterfly Ball in Float (there are five subtle shades to choose from). It's a barely-there nude and the same can be said for the shimmer, which is a mere glint on my lips. I know this sounds mad, but my teeth really do look whiter. Not only that, but this is a treatment lipstick, more like a balm really. It contains Aloe Vera as well as Vitamins E, C and B. Perfect for chapped winter lips.
