The feature documentary, created by Bumble and Bumble founder Michael Gordon and director Craig Teper, tells the rag-to-riches tale of iconic British hairstylist Vidal Sassoon. Before Sassoon, hairdressing was all about setting the hair in curls or big bouffant blow-dries, but in the 1960s he revolutionised the hair world with his architectural approach to hairdressing, precision cutting and iconic five point cut. So incredibly popular, it became the look of swinging 60s London with the likes of Mary Quant and Grace Coddington sporting the style. Sassoon said, 'I made up mind, if I was going to be in hairdressing, I wanted to change things,' and change things he did; without him we never would have had such inspirational hairstyles as Kate Moss' '90s crop or Posh's Pob.
The fast-paced film follows Michael Gordon as he sets out to document Vidal's life in a book, it tells the story of how Sassoon revolutionised the world of hair with his new style and 'wash and wear' philosophy. The fashion, style and social revolutions of the 1960's come alive as the design of the book and the film unfold. It's a must-see for all fashion and beauty lovers; Vidal Sassoon is a national treasure and this film goes a long way to recognising and celebrating that.
