If youre fanatical about fragrance, then book now to take a trip through the history of scent from ancient times to the present day and discover exactly what inspired some of the worlds best-loved fragrances.
Curated by renowned Perfumer, Roja Dove, Harrods Perfume Diaries uncovers how world events came to shape the perfumes that defined decades. Take the sweet and comforting vanilla scents that were popular in the 1930s; pure escapism and societys response to the Depression. Or the fresh green notes of the late 1940s that perfectly mirrored the worlds desire for a new start. As part of the exhibition youll also have the rare chance to see original sketches and bottles as well as old advertisements and personal anecdotes.
There will also be ongoing events and workshops including a personal appearance from Jade Jagger (pictured), who will show her interpretation of Guerlain's iconic Shalimar bottle (8 September 12.30-2pm). Jean-Paul Guerlain and Thierry Wasser will give a talk about the House of Guerlain on 9 September from 6.30-7.30pm (call 020 7 739 1234 ext 3020 to reserve your place). Roja Dove will also give a series of talks during the month with key speakers from the fragrance world.
Round it all off with a pit stop in the Georgian Restaurant and treat yourself to a fragrant afternoon tea inspired by the exhibition, including rose, violet and bergamot infused teas and cakes yummy.
