Dockery worked a romantic texture in her hair, a big autumn winter 2012 trend, pairing her romantically dishevelled bun with another key trend – a vampy lip.

Christina Hendricks, Mad Men

Hendricks isn’t one to shy away from a bold lip either. While her red lip was a nod to the old school glamour her character is known for, she tousled her flaming tresses and left them loose (rather than pinning up like Dockery) to give her look a more modern feel.

Jessica Pare, Mad Men

Fellow co-star Pare didn’t stop at the lips when channelling the old school glamour. She added a slick of black liner to ramp-up the retro feel of her look. Her bob-length hair looked as if it had been set in rollers and brushed out to create a typically retro 1950s hairstyle.

Kat Dennings, 2 Broke Girls

Dennings also wore a red lip. She rocked long loose curls with a J.Mendal dress that gave her beauty look a more ethereal quality, part renaissance, part Grecian goddess. We love.

Zooey Deschanel, New Girl

From renaissance to retro, Deschanel chose to wear a hot pink pout with blue undertones that worked perfectly with her pale blue Reem Acra prom-style dress. Unlike Dennings who went without heavy eye make-up Deschanel stayed true to her signature style with plenty of liner (kohl and liquid).
