Emily Blunt face of Opium

Miranda Priestly would be so proud. Both her assistants have landed top jobs in modelling: Anne Hathaway is starring in a campaign for Tod's (read more here), while last night Emily Blunt, who first caught people's attention as the catty first assistant to Miranda Priestly in the Devil Wears Prada, has landed the deal to be not just the face, but the ambassador for YSL Opium Eau de Parfum.

The heady scent was first launched back in 1977 and created by perfumer Jean-Louis Sieuzac. Today, the bottle designed by Pierre Dinand and its juice are iconic. The scent itself starts as a fruity-floral thanks to mandarin orange, bergamot and lily of the valley; at its heart is jasmine, carnation and myrrh, before it dries down to a sweet, incense aroma of vanilla, patchouli, opoponax and amber. Extremely relevant in the opulent, glamorous era of the seventies, the unchanged scent is still as admired as ever. This popularity has been helped along the way by its controversial name, which caused a stir when it launched. Its choice of collaborators - they chose Twin Peaks director David Lynch to create to adverts for the scent in 1992 and 1999. Then in 2000, model Sophie Dahl's nude ad campaign for the fragrance was so talked about and divisive that if you hadn't heard of the scent before, you definitely had after.

For the job YSL chose Emily Blunt, who they believe personifies the scent perfectly. The print and TV campaign was shot by photographers Romain Gavras and Patrick Demarchelier, and both will be unveiled in October. Emily says, 'I am very honoured to have been chosen to be the face of Opium. It is really exciting to embody a fragrance which has stood the test of time without its allure ever being diminished'.
