Bottega Veneta launches debut scent

Tomas Maier, Creative Director of Bottega Veneta, attracted some big names to the task of bringing the brand to life through fragrance. We revealed earlier this year that Tomas had cast Nine d’Urso as the face of the scent. Nine comes from fashion royalty, her mother is French fashion icon Inés de la Fressange (Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel muse in the 1980s).

Tomas said of choosing Nine, 'there is something classically elegant about her, yet she is totally modern. She conveys a sense of heritage worn lightly but with respect.'

The scent which is a leathery, floral chypre was created by the perfumer Michel Almairac (the nose behind Burberry of London, Chloe EDP and Le Labo Ambrette 9 among others). For the scent Tomas envisioned 'an old house in the beautiful countryside in the Veneto region of Italy with rolling green hills, where we’re from...a room with old wood floors, library walls and leather-bound books with the windows open wide, the breeze coming in and cut grass, hay, moss, garden flowers, growing through the room and everything mixing up. That’s where we started.'

The finished scent includes notes of Italian bergamot, Brazilian pink pepper, Indian Sambac jasmine, oak moss, patchouli and Indian patchouli.

To coincide with the launch Maier called on legendary photographer (and sometime filmmaker) Bruce Weber to shoot the print ads, as well as a video that conjures up the feel of the scent, on a beach in South Florida.
