The Bob
It was a haircut that shocked society when it was first created by Polish-born hairdresser Antoine de Paris in France in 1909, and it has been in fashion ever since. 2009 is the 100th birthday of the bob – a hair style as fresh and modern today as it was 100 years ago. Not that the bob hasn’t seen several reinventions over the last century. In the 20s it was short and severe with a blunt fringe, but by the 60s Faye Dunaway was flaunting a longer style in 'Bonnie and Clyde', while Twiggy and Edie Sedgewick went edgier with short, asymmetric crops.Today Agyness Deyn is our poster girl for the bob, constantly evolving hers from choppy to softer, more feminine styles. Happy Birthday to the world’s most iconic hairstyle.
