Sophie Dahl famously slimmed from a size 18 to a size 12 several years ago. Stating her goal was to lose weight, she said ‘I wanted to get fit, sculpt my body and look good.’ She did it and has maintained her new body with the guidance of The Body Doctor, David Marshall.
Sophie, now 31, doubled her level of fitness, dropped three dress sizes and lost more than five inches from her waist in just six weeks. David’s regime for Sophie combined yoga principles with cardiovascular workouts and weights. Marshall’s secret fitness formula? ‘My set of 22 exercises must be followed in sequence - with no improvisation - because each one is designed to offset any negative effect of the previous exercise.’ This also creates a long lean body.
Sophie follows Marshall's nutritional program too, which is focused on combining the right foods at meal times and drinking plenty of water. For maximum results, he advises never mix carbohydrates and protein in the same meal - sandwiches, clearly are out. Though some diets include vegetables and salad in the carbohydrate food group, Marshall considers them neutral ingredients that can be eaten with protein and carbohydrates. The ratio of vegetables and salad to meat or carbohydrate should be four or five to one. And, as a general rule, each meal portion should be able to fit into your cupped hands.
