It claims to not only help you lose weight but also boost your metabolism, increase energy and strengthen your immune system. The diet consists of fresh juices made with anti-oxidant rich vegetables that assist the body’s detoxification process.
Prior to beginning the detox a ‘pre-cleanse’ is essential to prep the body for the task ahead and to help minimise the potential side effects such as headaches and nausea. During the days running up to the detox drink hot water and lemon in the morning with honey, lemon and cayenne pepper, cut back on wheat, diary, coffee, sugar and alcohol and eat smaller portions than normal. Get in to the habit of dry brushing your body everyday as it’s a necessity during the detox. It will help to start the detoxification process by mobilising the lymph glands in the body, whose main function is to prevent the spread of illness in the body and produce and store immune cells. Do gentle, detoxifying exercises such as swimming and yoga. If you are feeling up to it you can continue with the exercise whilst detoxing.
Upon started the detox, the juices are delivered to your home or work. Each day is quite formulaic with the morning routine consisting of a glass of warm water with lemon followed by a shot of acai berry juice (it increases the metabolic rate and is a powerful antioxidant as well as increasimg energy and fighting fatigue), a shot of aloe vera juice (for its detoxifying and healing properties),1 flat teaspoon of dried superfood mix (contains soluable/insoluable fibre, phytonutrients, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, antioxidants and probiotics), one teaspoon of psyllium husk powder (to relieve constipation), 2 bentonite clay capsules (an intestine cleanser) and one multi-vitamin tablet.
Throughout the rest of the day you sip the juices, herbal teas and coconut water (rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and increases the metabolic rate and boosts the immune system).
The evenings see a pretty similar routine of taking 1 teaspoon of psyllium husk powder and 2 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil mixed with juice.

Pros
The weight loss is a huge positive - I lost an impressive 5lb in one week. Whilst some may look at the lack of variety in the diet as a minus I actually found it surprisingly handy not having to plan meals and it saves time that would normally be spent cooking and shopping. The bottles are delivered to your door, the only effort required is to put them in the fridge or if you are spending the day out, remembering to pack them.
Cons
Naturally the biggest downside to the detox is the hunger. Seven days without food takes its toll. I have heard that whilst on a juice detox, after a couple of days the hunger subsides – for me, no such luck. It seemed alien to me not to eat. The caffeine withdrawals were also a nightmare and by day three I had to have a cup tea just to be able to function at work. Lastly, you have to be prepared to put your social life on hold for a week as there is really no way to hide the fact that you are not eating or drinking. The prescribed psyllium husks are disgusting, unfortunately they’re essential if you are not eating, but that doesn’t make them any easier to swallow…
