Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman are fans of the no nonsense, easy to understand diet that requires you to eat fresh, healthy and organic and teaches you how to combine good carbs, good fats and lean protein in combinations to keep you feeling full all day. ‘Eat Clean’ refers to reducing fat and eating from the earth and eschewing processed foods, such as marshmallows, or salad dressings.
Created by Tosca Reno, a mother of three who lost 60 pounds dieting and learned in the process what really works and doesn’t, the diet revolves around her major discovery - that you can still lose weight by eating a lot of food, as long as you eat the right food. Tosca also introduces bee pollen and flax as the latest dietary must-do’s.
It is true that on this diet many foods become no go areas, mostly the usual suspects; sugar, white flour and processed foods, but Tosca doesn’t demand ‘no carbs’ or ‘no sugars’ and to make sure you never feel like you are going hungry, she recommends that you eat five to seven small meals a day to minimise snacking. This revs up your metabolism – often diets send the body into starvation mode and protract the burning of calories, a slower and less healthy way to lose weight – and gives you bundles of energy. Followers have additionally reported the need for less sleep.
The diet helps eliminate any bloat from water weight. With two weeks worth of recipes in Tosca’s diet book – think parchment baked fish with vegetables or stir fried chicken - it’s requires a bit of a larder overhaul and time to prep all your own dishes. Eat Clean is pretty easy to follow but perhaps more for the intermediate dieter – the cutting out of so many foods is a bit tough for total beginners. For those who used to diet plans and who already exercise, they will find a lot of the advice familiar but with some new useful ways to lose that extra 10 pounds.

Cons
Most of the food Tosca recommends is organic, so pricey, and you may need a total fridge overhaul. Also prepping five to seven meals in advance is a slog – you will need to be quite adept at food preparation and have time to dedicate to planning all your meals in advance. Also eating out is tricky – you may have to abandon it whilst in the throes of the diet.
