diets

The Grapefruit Diet

The Grapefruit diet is a restricted calorie diet which you must follow for 12 days, it isn't encouraged as a long term way of eating, but could work if you want to lose weight before a big event or holiday.

Rules

Restrict calorie intake to 800 per day
Start each day with a grapefruit or freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

Lunch and dinner must consist of grapefruit followed by lean meat and salad/vegetables

Limit coffee to one cup per meal
Absolutely no snacking between meals

You cannot eat -

Dessert, bread, potatoes (any variety), pasta, onions, celery, peas, cucumber, carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, cheese, mayonnaise, processed meats/food, nuts

You can eat -

Salad, lean meat, red onions, peppers, brocolli, corn, starchy vegetables, spinach, fruit, low-fat dressings

Pros

Due to all the grapefruit you will consume this diet is a great source of vitamin C. Also as each meal consists of certain vegetables and salad you will get a good source of nutrients from each meal.

Cons

Low calorie, low carb diets can be dangerous. If you are only consuming 800 calories per day this will probably lead to mood swings and tiredness.
