The Grapefruit diet is a restricted calorie diet which you must follow for 12 days, it isn't encouraged as a long term way of eating, but could work if you want to lose weight before a big event or holiday.
Rules
Restrict calorie intake to 800 per day
Start each day with a grapefruit or freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
Lunch and dinner must consist of grapefruit followed by lean meat and salad/vegetables
Limit coffee to one cup per meal
Absolutely no snacking between meals
You cannot eat -
Dessert, bread, potatoes (any variety), pasta, onions, celery, peas, cucumber, carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, cheese, mayonnaise, processed meats/food, nuts
You can eat -
Salad, lean meat, red onions, peppers, brocolli, corn, starchy vegetables, spinach, fruit, low-fat dressings
Pros
Due to all the grapefruit you will consume this diet is a great source of vitamin C. Also as each meal consists of certain vegetables and salad you will get a good source of nutrients from each meal.
Cons
Low calorie, low carb diets can be dangerous. If you are only consuming 800 calories per day this will probably lead to mood swings and tiredness.
