Whether you're looking to shift a few pounds in a week, drop a dress size for a big event or want to change your eating habits forever, find the best diet to suit you in our guides below...
Rules
This eating plan devised by a professor of nutritional science is based on the very common sense concept of filling up on food that makes you feel full but is low in calories. Barbara Rolls, the originator of the diet, which has slowly been accruing fans while other more high-profile diets popularity wanes, devised a Energy Density (ED) Index for foods, with foods low in ED, such as fruit, soups and vegetables making you feel full. One of the key factors of the best foods to stop hunger is foods with a high water content.
This diet is firmly against deprivation, and unlike other diets, rails against eliminating food groups such as carbs. In fact in a year long study conducted by Barbara Rolls, a group who ate more, but foods of lower ED actually lost more weight than a group who ate low fat food and smaller portion sizes than usual. This is probably one of the few diets you are most likely to stick to for life, with the book outlining 125 recipes in full colour for you to easily follow – telling you how to replace meals you might currently eat with the Volumetrics low cal option. Examples include switching from crisps to a veggie platter and low-fat dips, or traditional pasta macaroni cheese to vegetable macaroni with whole wheat pasta and reduced fat cheese. Think, if you leave the butter off bread, you can have two slices instead of one for the same 140 calories. It’s all about eating satisfying portions of low calorie delicious food.
Potentially the perfect diet?

Pros
The Volumetrics Eating Plan doesn't eliminate food groups or overload you with rules – the book has full colour photographs to help you prepare you meals and show what they should look like. You can personalise it to suit your preferences and goals – don’t have to give up flavour
Cons
As far as we can see there aren’t many cons, however if you are looking for a short-term crash diet, this is not the diet or you – keeping in mind most crash diets simply involve loss of body water anyway. It is quite simplistic and even though you can apparently eat anything you like, you do need to eat in the right proportions for results.
