Rainbow hair has gone next level. It's no longer enough to emulate Kylie Jenner's blue hue or spend hours (I'm taking at least 3) going through the process of Sand Art, pits are now getting splashed with colour too.
Not only have masses of women shared their images using #dyedpits on Instagram, hundreds have taken to YouTube to post vlogs on why they’ve done it and in-depth tutorials on how to create the look on your own.
Latin blogger, Destiny M explained that she dyed her hair as a way of rebelling against society's 'beauty' expectations (see below). ''It's part of our social constructs that women have to be hairless and that's just one of the many beauty standards that are enforced from a very young age,' she says. '[Growing out your hair] is so empowering. As a young girl, you are always told, hairless is beauty, it's perfection. But when you go against the grain like that, it's so empowering. I really recommend you try it.'
Dyed armpit hair is not completely new. Radicals and riot girrls have been doing it for years. But since Miley Cyrus started publicly rocking pink underarms in June, it's become a proper trend, showing up on Tumblr, Instagram, and, most noticeably, at my local park.
So, forget about looking for rainbows in the sky, they're on our streets.
