As the New Year honours list was released this week we were particularly proud to see one particular person named. Wendy Sly, Olympic Athlete and excellent fitness buddy to the group ELLE Running Club who tailed her for a good four miles not so long ago. We already recognized her legendary status of course, (she won silver in the 1984 3000m Olympics) but now the Queen has too, our pride by association just went up a notch.

This new honor is the latest in a list of great achievements, not least her epic Olympic Silver win – it was her very first Olympics, yet still sees her ranked in the UK all-time top 10 for 3000m today – she is also a world champion long distance road runner, and works to inspire young people to get fit.

Wendy will receive an MBE for her services to Athletics, but in addition we’d just like to thank her for services to ELLEfit too. Congratulations Wendy. See you next Wednesday for Run Club, yeah?
