ELLE met with Rosemary Ferguson, a model who at 18 was catwalks and featuring in advertising campaigns for the likes of Chanel, Versace, Dolce & Gabanna and Miu Miu.
After realising many of the common ailments we all suffer - sluggishness, stress and skin complaints - could be improved with food Ferguson spent years experimenting with different health regimes on herself and her family. Finally, the model took the plunge and studied to be a naturopathic nutritionist.
We caught up with Kate Moss' pal to talk health, fitness and the supplements you should be taking...
Why did you decide to train in nutrition?
Its something Ive always been interested in, and my family, my stepdads a homeopath and my gran owned a health food store. Ive always eaten really healthy food and I just love the wonderful things you can do with supplements. It just grew and grew until I decided I wanted to give up some time and go and learn about it. Im really passionate about it.
Are you very strict about your diet?
Im quite careful about what I eat but Im not really strict because Im just not like that. I like to go and have fun and I like to try different foods. If Im away somewhere and theres something really rich on the menu Ill have it. I dont think restricting yourself is a good thing to do. Obviously I follow a very healthy diet but I think you have to feed your soul too so as long as youre not having steak three times a week its ok. Im probably not that healthy at all but I know a lot about how to be!
If I was to ask you how to get healthy what are the three things youd tell me to do first?
Drink more water, eat more fruit, eat more veg. Those are the top three. Its not mysterious to get healthy, its really easy.
Do you exercise?
I do yoga once a week and I train once a week and I ride a horse. Ive always done quite a lot of exercise, I probably do less now than I used to. Its all I have time for.
What are the supplements you swear by?
Ill tell you what I take but its different for different people so Id never say everyone should take this. A good Vitamin B is really important because its good for your nerves, good for stress. Vitamin C is a constant. Magnesiums really good if you cant sleep. And Vitamin D. This whole country should take Vitamin D in the winter, that I can say categorically, because we dont get enough sun.
