Trying to get back on track in January isn’t easy. We spent December enjoying all of the treats whilst telling ourselves we’d get healthy again in Jan. But now we’re here, sticking to the ambitious resolutions we set from a hangover state on New Years Day is not so appealing after all.

To help get the motivational kick start we need, we spoke to Carly Rowena. The personal trainer and fitness guru is best known for her awesome YouTube workouts. Here is her best advice. Read then why not get a sweat on with this (that’s what we’re doing – promise!).

Take a day at a time: Instead of thinking so far ahead, take each day as it comes, you don’t have to wait for the start of the week or a new month to make changes. Let’s focus on today: can you drink more, aim to walk for 20 minutes, find some time to get to the gym or simply make time to start the day with a balanced breakfast. Start here and the rest will follow.

Keep it challenging: Think of Fitness as you would Yoga, you know there’s always going to be moves you can’t do and that it’s going to take time to get better. The gym is exactly the same, it’s all about finding new ways to push your body, perfecting technique and moving into harder positions when it all gets too easy. If you keep it varied and challenging you will see faster results and you won’t get bored.

Prepare. Darker mornings and nights always make feeling like exercising a little harder so make a couple of epic playlists, treat yourself to some new fitness apparel and make sure you have them laid by your door or in your handbag so that there's absolutely no excuse when the alarm goes off.

Don’t stress, just get back on track: So you’ve fallen off the wagon, no worries. Grab your lycra, pop on your trainers and get moving, it doesn’t have to be extreme, you just need to move and there are a million ways to do that without hitting the gym so think about what it is you enjoy. If it’s dancing, go to a dance class, if it’s relaxing try swimming and then enjoy a steam and sauna afterwards, if you like to be surrounded by friends take them to a group class and then grab a coffee or healthy juice afterwards, it’s about moving your body in any way you like.
