We all know that feeling - when you've spent so long in the mirror attempting to cover up that unwelcome surprise spot/pigmentation that seems to have suddenly appeared in the last five minutes, that you're half an hour late for work and frantically trying to think of a better excuse than 'my concealer ran out'.
Which is why we called upon Rihanna's main man and Global Make-Up Artist for Fenty Beauty, Hector Espinal, to steal all his secrets for using one concealer, three ways.
So, whether it's making a pimple conveniently disappear, or erasing those 'yes I had a second glass' dark circles, Hector's genius tips and tricks have got you covered (pardon the pun).
Hector's Genius Tips For Covering Spots:
- Literally everyone has texture or spots that they might want to conceal. Use a damp sponge to apply your concealer - this helps to control the amount of coverage you want.
- Choose a concealer a shade darker than your foundation - this will help it to look as seamless as possible. Go a shade lighter if you want to cover dark circles.
- Apply concealer on any spots you want to cover and blend using the sponge.
Pro Tip: For extra coverage, start with a bare face, apply concealer on to the spot, blend with a sponge, then apply foundation on top and finish with a second application of concealer.
Hector's Genius Tips For Covering Pigmentation:
- The areas you want to focus on for pigmentation are your nose, around your mouth, eyelids and chin.
- Choose a shade of concealer that matches your foundation.
- Start applying concealer in feather-like strokes around your mouth, working your way up to your nose and then eyes.
- Use a small brush to blend, then a damp sponge to eliminate any extra pigmentation.
- Use a large fluffy brush and translucent powder to set the concealer.
Pro Tip: Find the right concealer for your skin tone by swatching it on the inside of your wrist. The sun rarely hits here so it'll be a true match to your face. For foundation, swatch on your chest.
Hector's Genius Tips For Covering Dark Circles:
- When covering dark circles, less is more. Start with less concealer and build up the amount of product you need depending on how dark your under eyes are.
- Starting from your tear duct, apply feather-like strokes of concealer.
- Work you way under your eye and around to your temples.
- Use a damp sponge to blend the concealer where you want the most coverage.
- For extra coverage, use a small brush to dab more concealer where you want it.
Pro Tip: Choose a concealer a shade lighter than your foundation or try one with a peach undertone to neutralise dark circles.
