Does sugar really give you spots, make you fat and generally leave you sluggish? And even if it does, could you really give it up? “No-one needs refined sugar and it’s completely safe to cut out” says nutritionist Victoria Tyler, “Just try not to go cold turkey if you’re a sugar addict, you’ll get withdrawal symptoms such as irritability and headaches” Avoiding all refined sugars such as cakes, biscuits and chocolate was pretty tough at the beginning especially when you cut out all sweet foods. However a week of strong willpower and no sugar led to increased energy, fewer breakouts and better digestion. After a month skin was picture perfect (result!). Not only that, but fruit and vegetables never tasted better. Make sure you fill up on low G.I. foods which release energy in to your system slowly such as oats, brown rice and wholemeal pasta. It’s tough but if you start now you’ll be glowing for all those office party pictures come December.
