How To Get Glowing Skin When It’s Grim Outside

'It's good to have a couple of things in your back pocket to get instantly glowy skin. I like a really good face mist - the Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Hydro-Mist is amazing, it's got a texture that's like a serum so it gives you this insane gorgeous glow - you just mist it on the high points of your face to get a highlighter sheen.'

'I always get asked, "How should you use highlighter if you’ve got oily skin?". The key is to highlight with a light, creamy product, nothing too rich, and then do a little bit of powder in the centre of the face.

'It’s all about contrast, so avoid the centre of your face (highlight the bridge of your nose but not the sides) then carry around some blotting sheets or powder to control the shine throughout the day.'

'I'm a big believer in strategic placement of skincare. Depending on what foundation you're using you have to prep the skin differently.

'If you’re going to wear a full coverage foundation that’s quite matte, no matter what your skin type or texture you’ll want a dewy base.

'If you’re gong to go quite lightweight and dewy with the foundation you probably don’t need as much skincare, or you could use matte-finish products.'

'Always take the time to exfoliate. Whenever I do a client's make-up, if I can see even a whiff of dry skin I use a peel pad to buff away any dead skin, areas that your make-up clings to, or anywhere your skin tends to look duller. That way your make-up is going to last all day because it won’t be sticking to dead skin thats flaking off.'

'Blusher in the winter is the best thing. Go berry, or bright or dark and bold! It can still be sheer if you use a cream - I drop a bit of face oil in the middle and then buff a big brush into it - it changes the consistency and allows you to dust on this glossy blush. Obviously, you wouldn’t do this on a powder blusher, but for a cream it makes it even sheenier.

'How much pressure you apply is very important - if you apply too much you'll move your foundation around, so you want to be as light as possible.

'Then take a concealer and apply it around the blusher, creating a clean border.'

'It's easier when the weather is nasty to do a gorgeous lip rather than eye make-up because if your mascara gets wet in the rain it all goes wrong, whereas lipstick is easier to maintain and manage because you can just top up in the centre of your lip.'
