Despite all our best efforts (multiple tabs open, several devices on the go, insatiable hope) we still didn't manage to bag an elusive Glastonbury ticket.

But that doesn't mean we can't work the most talked about, Instagram-hyped festival hair craze at every other possible opportunity. We're talking, of course, about glitter roots.

Rather than sprinkling glitter in wild abandon in a tent, sans mirror and aided by booze, we're in the #ELLEFashionCupboard, testing out the look so when those of you lucky enough to get your hands on a Glastonbury ticket finally get there , you'll already have your glitter roots down.

Here goes…

How To Do Glitter Roots

It's actually ridiculously easy to do, particularly if you're after a haphazard result, which we are.

Brush your hair into a middle parting, spray a little hairspray over the root section and sprinkle on Topshop Hair Glitter – a chunkier shape than your average stuff, with a special coated film to help it stay in your hair until you wash it, apparently.

Note: It will fall down past the roots and this is ok. Go with it.

The Verdict

Why have we never tried this before? So simple, so effective, such a good way to hide our grown-out roots!

We've found our hairstyle spirit animal.

Ok, granted, we're not going to start wearing this on the regular in the office, or when nipping to Tesco's (although that does sound fun), but we're already planning our upcoming festival schedule so we can do it all over again. The Instagram opportunities are endless.

Warning: You will find glitter in random places for days to come. It will be worth it.

Still not satisfied? Here's some more glitter root Instagram inspiration to whet your festival hair appetite:
