Would You Let The World's Best Hairstylist Give You Sideburns?

That's what happened backstage at Christopher Kane

Would you let the world's greatest backstage hairstylist give you sideburns? No? Fair enough. But what if that cut could improve your career - would you do it then? Let us explain...

Backstage at Christopher Kane, legendary stylist and Redken's Global Creative Director, Guido was dishing out cuts to almost every model that walked through the door. Nothing too radical, just chopping in blunt, sharp sideburns that were then stuck down to the face using Redken Shine Flash 02 for a boyish effect, which juxtaposed with the long lengths at the back.

'It's amazing how when you cut just a few pieces around the face it completely changes the girl and adds to her character,' Guido told us. And it's true. Chopping in a few sideburns added a level of toughness that would have been otherwise trickier to achieve. But what did the models think? 'I was surprised – they were all really up for it,' he added.

And that's the thing - when Guido offers to cut your hair, you don't say no. Not because he's scary or intimidating (quite the opposite, he's a lovely guy) but because he's the man behind career boosting cuts. It's his thing. Just look back to last week's Alexander Wang in New York, where Guido gave complete hair makeovers to around 20 models, who have since landed big gigs in London. 'My cuts can't guarantee careers,' Guido said, but we'd argue they certainly increase the likelihood.

For proof, look to Katie Moore; a relatively new model on the scene, who turned up at Alexander Wang's AW16 show with waist-length blonde hair and left with a Guido tomato-red, blunt bob complete with a micro fringe. What happened next? She opened the show and went on walk in all four big cities with everyone suddenly knowing her name.

Obviously the average trim isn't going to cut it (ahem), so what's the secret? 'The rawer they are the cooler they look,' explains Guido, 'I often use a razor blade to create chunkier layers and shapes.' And cool haircuts, just like colours, get noticed.
