Sam McKnight is unarguably one of the biggest names in hair, with a career spanning four decades and creativity that knows no bounds (hence why Karl Lagerfeld calls on him every season to style the hair for Chanel and Fendi).

If you don't know his face, you'll definitely have stared in awe at his work and wished you could get a piece of it. See where we're going with this?

Yes, the man behind the hair we all want is finally launching his own range of styling products (out April), just months after his debut book and exhibition at Somerset House, all aptly named Hair by Sam McKnight.

We got the low-down at Michael Halpern, where Sam was using the Modern Hairspray - one of the four styling products - for the first time backstage.

So what makes this different to other hairsprays?

'It's all down to the texture,' Sam told us, 'It's light, airy and completely dry, so you can keep on layering it and playing with it and it won't ever get too heavy.' Sold.

Finish aside, we really need to talk about how it amazing it smells. Sam worked with perfumer and friend, Lyn Harris (founder of Miller & Harris) to create a fragrance reminiscent of his garden in the rain.

He knew he'd nailed the scent when he blind-tested it on pals Kate Moss and Charlotte Tilbury and they loved it. Pretty great seal of approval, no?

While we can't reveal exact details on the contents of the other three products just yet, we can confirm they all come in the same matte packaging, but all in different colours.
