12009 - Platinum-ish
"That was me in 2009 going 'I want platinum blonde hair!' and them going 'Your hair is black. It might take a while.' I'm like, 'No, I need it by tonight. I have an event at 7pm and it was, like, 5.' We can't just do it. So, [I] got all chemical burns and terrible fringe. And look how bad my makeup is!"
22010 - Black and Long
"That's a wig. My hair was shaved. And it went with this Miu Miu dress with all these flowers and I was obsessed. When a [magazine] does a transformation of then and now this is always the photo of "then." I've never taken my look seriously.I've never compromised how I feel–if I didn't want to wear Miu Miu, if I didn't want to wear purple eyeliner, and eye shadow, and a wig , I wouldn't have done it. But, I really love the idea of shocking people on the carpet at that event. And so I did. That color was great."
32010 - Silver Fingerwaves
"That was for a really glamorous event called the Logies. This was when Annie Lenox and Sinéad O'Connor were my icons for sure! It's basically all shaved. I felt like I was limited with how short my hair was because it really was so shaved, so we did beautiful makeup and I think the only way I felt like I could really give the makeup and the gown the right look was with a little bit of the finger wave curl."

42011 - Red Fauxhawk
"I looked like Chuckie. That was also when I was dying my own hair–it doesn't look so bad now but it probably wasn't the best idea. I knew my [gender fluid] identity, but I didn't know how to execute it like I do now. We would go to events and be told it's black tie or cocktail or whatever and I would be like 'Oh, cocktail means cocktail dress.' I didn't know how I could just turn up. So, every time, I am wearing a lot of makeup with that kind of hair. I am like, that looks weird. I didn't know I had the freedom to do whatever.
52012 - Faux Long Hair
"My hair was super short then–that was just a hair piece, which always makes me laugh because so many magazines do this thing like, 'You'll NEVER believe the transformation of Ruby Rose!' And it's like, that's clip-ins! Extensions! Those sew-in things. I was going for a–gosh, I look like I'm going for a carnival look, really–but it was meant to be fun and edgy. At that time people were dressing in costumes [on the red carpet], not like glamorous outfits."
62013 - Lavender Bob
"This was clearly when I thought it was okay to dye my own hair, considering I have blonde roots and purple blue and other colors. But, the beauty look is nice. I have a lot of lashes, dark brows. I'm very much about the brow. I don't have to do much, which is lucky because when I was young, I plucked them to be like Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. Then, I every day prayed to be like Brooke Shields instead. Now, I have eyebrows again. That was a fun color. I think I've tried all colors and styles. It's fun because every time I do a different color, you have to change everything you wear and all your makeup."

72015 - Bowl Cut
"This [haircut] everyone hated! Everybody hated it! I loved it! I loved it even more when people hated it. That was also pre- me even knowing how to do my own makeup."
82016 - Green Braids
"I went through a braid stage because I was growing my hair out and there really wasn't much [I could do]. I love having my hair off my face. That's why I love short hair. We did a really sparkly gold eye and we did lots of lashes, we did a lip, we did brows, we kept it neutral colored because you don't want to clash with the green hair."
92017 - Neon Pink
Instagram "I had neon green hair for xXx for four months and I was like, I just need to do something different. I only had this hair for three weeks. It was just to go home for Christmas, spend Christmas with my family, and I just wanted to feel fun and light and easy."

102017 - Black Pixie
"I love this look. It was daring and I was a little bit frightened, but I have an amazing makeup artist and hair team. I remember being like, 'I don't know if I can get away with this,' and with the lip being such a bold statement and the eye being so understated–I was a bit scared because for me, the natural inclination is to do a bold eye and much less on the lip. Or at least have some good lashes! But, we barely used a tiny bit of mascara. I really enjoyed the look. It felt powerful, it felt bold. The lip being metallic–killer."
