What Is Hair Plopping?

And, why is everyone doing it?

Sounds weird. Seems to work. Meet 'plopping'; the American tress trend for creating defined curls without heat styling.

Here's the method in a nutshell: Plop your curls on top of your head wrapped in a towel, t-shirt or cloth, then twist both sides securely. Leave in while the hair dries and you go about your business. Et voila! Remove to reveal frizz-free curls.

What we love about the refreshingly simple techniques is that it can tame the hair without causing any damage from styling. Given that the curls form and set above the head the result boasts better bounce and definition.

The founder Michele Scott-Lynch says "Terry towels draw moisture from the hair, they ruffle the cuticles and mess up the curl pattern". Her ultra soft cotton, bamboo and elastane version absorbs excess water so the hair maintains hydration – which we know is essential for smooth curls. The results speak for themselves:
