We wanted to tell you about this amazing new trend - The Brony - but we can't. Simply because it isn't a new trend, but it IS a new name for an old trend.

Some light googling informs me that Georgia May Jagger - who captioned her colourful Instagram selfie "Bronies with @AlexBrownsell @bleachlondon Mermaizing hair colour" - is a little off-colour with this particular hair-dye nomenclature. Since the Brony is actually a slang term for a subculture of teenage or adult boys - or 'bros' - who are fans of the cartoon series My Little Pony. Yes, really.

We've been banging on about rainbow hair ever since we fell in love with Sky Ferrera and Charlotte Free (it wasn't that long ago in real time, but in fashion time it was aaaaaaages). We keep showing you everytime someone new and noteworthy goes rainbow-haired. Or 'bronies' their hair, as the kids are calling it now, and we even tested the anti-ageing properties of pastel pink hair. (It works).

If the trend for kookily renaming things keeps going, we'll keep reporting. 'Hair Plopping'. Done it. 'Split Hair' - that too. But The Brony? Can we just stop flogging a a dead horse* here. It might make a bit of sense if BRunettes were getting their hair dyed in pastel hues like a My Little pONY - but nope, that's far too rational an explaination.

Please tweet us your alternative rainbow hair trend names and we'll let the next celebrity know to use one of those instead.
