The ponytail. It’s simple. It’s quick. It’s my go-to when I’m exercising or washing my face before bed. But, after hanging out backstage at London Fashion week, I’ve realised it’s so much more.
Inspired by J.W Anderson’s spiral printed collection, hair stylist, Anthony Turner came up with the most impeccable rope-effect ponytails. Intricate in detail, yet simple in practice, it’s the perfect hairstyle for summer, especially if you suffer from frizzy humidity hair. Split your ponytail in two, twist from the centre outwards, then wrap around each other.

This is a low ponytail at its very best. The key is texture. “I wanted the girls to look as though they’d been transported to Cuba”, said hairstylist, Antonio Corral Calero, who worked moulding cream into the length of the hair before blow-drying it to create volume and grip. Avoid pulling out too many fly-aways around the face. Create a soft halo of hair by misting your hands with hairspray, before gently sweeping your hands over your hair to pick up loose bits.

“Fresh, sporty and old school with a pop of colour” is how hairstylist, Bianca Tuovi, described this look. The models had their hair swept up into a sleek, high ponytail at the crown of their head which was slightly off centre and inspired by the ‘Croydon facelift’ (a term I’d never heard before, but seemed to resonate with the rest of the beauty crowd). The ponytail was then curled into “S-bends” and finished off with a head scarf instead of a scrunchie - my favourite touch.
