Although summer weddings and lasting garden parties are over for the year, winter occasions are on their way in the form of cocktail nights and invite-only events.

While you may be able to give some of your summer garms a seasonal update, chances are your sun-kissed waves will be reverting faster than the weather.

And darker clouds call for more daring 'dos.

The SS17 shows saw braids of all kinds make a statement, but none more seasonally transitional than Dior's braided knots.

Romantic with more than just a twist at the top, it's neat and off the face from the front but elevated at the back.

Not only will the look survive the temperamental climate, taking you into the wee hours, it's also simple to do.

Follow our seven step guide below:

Step one: Dry your hair fully while running your fingers through your locks. If you use a high-quality hairdryer you can skip the straighteners.

The ideal setting is 80°C, as drying below 150°C ensures hair isn't exposed to extreme temperatures and won't look dull. We used a Dyson Supersonic™ with the styling concentrator, as it uses intelligent heat control to get the perfect setting and leaves your locks glossy without the damage.

Aim dryer parallel to hair

Step two: Section your hair in two half way up your ear, tying the top half in a high, sleek, ponytail.

Step three: Lift the bottom section and braid upwards, tying secure with a clear elastic band. We kept it easy with one, but if you're feeling like a pro, you can do three mini braids.

Braid bottom section upwards

Step four: Fix your braid into the bottom of your ponytail, fitting it under your hair tie.

Step five: Spray your ponytail with a spritz of texturising spray (we love Bumble & Bumble's Surf Spray) and scrunch.

Step six:Twist your hair into a messy bun and pin to secure.

Step seven: To tame those baby hairs which defy gravity and stick up no matter what you do, make sure have a hairdryer that you can set to high heat, but low speed (the Dyson Supersonic has the perfect temperature setting of 100°C and easy to manage speed).

Use your hairdryer to tackle unruly baby hairs

Aim at your flyaways and tame. Finish your look with a bit of hairspray (try Label:M), grab that clutch and go.
