Expert Tip: If you want to disguise your widow’s peak (when your hairline forms a ‘v’ in the centre of your forehead) then session stylist and creative director of Daniel Hersheson, Luke Hersheson says, ‘fingers are the most powerful tool you have’. He advises you, ‘comb towel-dried hair into a side parting, then as you blow-dry use your fingers to pull the front section of your hair forward and to the side covering your widow's peak.

Expert Tip: Hair stylist, and one half of Percy & Reed duo, Adam Reed says ‘the most important thing to remember is not to over-use product for this. The best way to tackle flyway hair is to apply product with a bristle toothbrush. This way you can apply a small amount of product and it won’t overload the hair. ‘Alternatively apply a soft hair wax or balm to the palm of your hand and apply gently by lifting off with the toothbrush and apply to tidy hair.’

Expert Tip: Lyndell Mansfield, Garnier Colour Expert, recommends, ‘if you have a smattering of grey all over then your easiest option is a permanent dye that will give you full coverage. For an instant quick fix or non-permanent option, then try a hair mascara (they come in several different shades). They’re great for nights out or important meetings when you haven't had time to get to a salon or touch up your colour at home’.

Expert Tip: Anna Chapman, director of Trevor Sorbie says ‘unfortunately there is no way of getting rid of a cowlick, it’s just the way your hair grows. The key is to never let your cow’s lick start to dry naturally!’ ‘Immediately after washing your hair, blow-dry the cowlick aiming the nozzle of your hairdryer at the front of your hairline directing it down and forward. This will help to flatten the cowlick, enabling you to wear a side or forward fringe (the thicker fringe the better it will weigh the cowlick down). However if yours is extremely strong it would be best to avoid a fringe, and wear your parting to the side.’

Expert Tip: Hairstylist Richard Ward suggests ‘the simplest and best way to get rid of damaged ends is to visit your hairdresser for regular trims. Dry, split ends will ruin your style, so remove them every 6 weeks to help the condition of your hair. ‘Don’t make the mistake of never visiting the salon, leaving any cut any longer than 12 weeks will result in dry, scraggy ends with no style definition that just gets harder and harder to look good’. In an emergency make your dry ends work for you by recreating the chic, textured, up-do that Kate Hudson sported in Cannes.

Expert Tip: Want to fake thick, fabulous tresses? ‘Blow-dry your hair with your head tipped upside down to get volume into the hair’ advises Alex Brownsell, founder of Bleach London. She also recommends using a thickening spray spritzed into roots while drying to keep your hair looking plump and bouncy all day.
