'There's so many possibilities for hair this Spring', says backstage hair pro and L'Oréal's UK Ambassador, Syd Hayes. 'It comes down to individuality and wearing the style that feels like you.'

And we agree. Buuuuut, if you're more inclined to take a little guided inspo from the SS18 runways, then you're in luck as well.

From wet look hair with a difference and retro headscarves even the Queen would approve of, to hair styled with military precision and the return of the infamous scrunchie (yes, there's furry versions and everything), there's a Spring hair trend for every fabulous, and totally unique, personality out there.

Need some expert info? We quizzed Syd on the only six Spring hair trends you need to know about this Spring and the one essential hair product to make it work IRL.

Read on for your next go-to hair do...

1. A Different Way To Wet Look

Shows To Note: Blumarine, Alexander McQueen, Preen, Christopher Kane, Prabal Gurung

'We're talking damp drizzled hair, that in some cases, like Alexander McQueen, looked like the models had been caught in a full on downpour with their hair running over their face. It's  a mix of grunge inspiration meets a normal woman who's just left an intense spin class and she's super sweaty. But it's about embodying the vibe rather than literally copying it to wear everyday.

'At Blumarine the models' hair was slick and wet look on top, then bouncy and blowdried on the bottom. It's two textures colliding but working really well together.'

The One Product You Need...

Text, Font, Black, Musical instrument accessory, Black-and-white, Boot, Cosmetics,

Oribe Rock Hard Gel, £36

'To create a wet look before I'd always use gel because you get a graphic shape. For Spring's version of the look I'll still use gel but I'll change the texture of the hair by using my fingers to move it, instead of using a brush. It gives the look a really raw edge.'

2. Throwback Updos

Shows To Note: Erdem, Antonio Marras, Temperley London, Miu Miu, Derek Lam

'Hair accessories are so relevant now, especially for updos. Miu Miu's 60s mod hairbands and Derek Lam's silk headscarves really set the tone. It's that retro updo that references the 1940s lady in her soft top Jag. She's not a woman, she's a lady.

'It's about updating that classic headscarf that the Queen wears tied under her chin in a little bow by making it modern with bright and bold prints and colours.'

The One Product You Need...

Textile, Red, Pattern, Font, Carmine, Electric blue, Sports jersey, Graphics, Fan, Graphic design,

Gucci Printed Silk-Satin Headband, £215

'There's a few different ways to wear a headscarf but you can make any look modern and cool with the right print and the right pair of sunglasses that sit on top of it. Wear your hair neatly tucked in, or try a low ponytail that peeks out of the bottom.'

3. Caught In The Wind

Shows To Note: Jonathan Simkhai, John Galliano, Paco Rabanne, Nina Ricci

'This season's hair isn't just about being undone, it's about going back to its natural texture. We've been through the whole perfect wave thing for ages. We had tonged wave after tonged wave, but now it's got a more raw finish to it that's  less about the perfect curling tong wave, and more about the texture.

'You can play with different products, and change your parting - flip it up and over to the side for a more 80s vibe, or use a diffuser to dry it for that caught in the wind look.'

The One Product You Need...

Product, Liquid, Green, White, Bottle, Aqua, Beauty, Tints and shades, Teal, Azure,

Sachajuan Ocean Mist, £18

'At the shows we saw a lot more air drying and diffusers to help get those natural textures. Get yourself some beach spray with some salt in it.  It's a bit dry and helps to give your hair more natural-looking texture.'

4. Bows, Barrettes And Bands

Shows To Note: Simone Rocha, Versace, Erdem, Ryan Lo, Rodarte, Dolce & Gabbana

'There's loads of designers doing hair accessories at the moment. Whenever I work with Sadie Williams we always do some sort of hair accessory. Last time we took little crocodile snap clips and covered them in Swarovski crystals.  The really nice thing was that they bent to the shape of the models' heads and looked so bling.

'Spring is all about playing with hair accessories and jazzing up your hairstyle by having fun.'

The One Product You Need...

Yellow, Line, Amber, Font, Tan, Eye glass accessory, Metal, Rectangle, Wing, Circle,
Syd Hayes Hair

Syd Hayes Hair Hair Pin, £65 (gold), £63 (silver)

'My Syd pins came to me because I kept seeing women walking around with messy top knots and thinking ,'They're missing something". Wearing hair accessories is all about contrast - if you've got messy, undone hair, jazz it up with a very deliberate pearl barrette or gold pin like mine. It gives the whole look some edge and makes it feel more now.'

6. Schoolgirl Ponytails And Plaits

Shows To Note: Mansur Gavriel, Loewe, Emilia Wickstead, Jil Sander, Prada

'Plaits and ponytails were everywhere at fashion week. Last season's looks were very dry and wispy and romantic whereas Spring's version  is much more neat and petite and worn low at the nape of the neck. They're much cleaner, sleeker and more linear, with less flyaways.

'Scrunchies are definitely back as well.  I've worked with some really cool ones including fake fur versions which have that really nice naive, effortless look.'

The One Product You Need...

Liquid, Product, Brown, Skin, Bottle, Peach, Orange, Red, Pink, Tints and shades,

L'Oréal Paris Stylista The Braid Milk, £4.99

'Before when I created plaits I'd use wax, but now I'm all about the braid milk. It gives your hair much more grip and less frizz, so you can create the perfect neat plait. you want that shine to give the look a graphic finish and avoid going too undone and romantic.'

5. Military Precision

Shows To Note: Moschino, Fendi, Roberto Cavalli

'There was almost a backlash against the natural texture and individuality trend that's been really strong this Spring. Instead of tailoring the looks to each model, designers created model armies with boyish and strict hair.

'At Fendi it was sophisticated and uniform and side parted. It's about making a statement - this is a powerful woman who means business and isn't hiding behind her hair.'
