Washing your hair in winter can be a real drag. Whether it’s because your boiler has broken down and you’re faced with an ice cold shower, or you just had a late night and there’s no time for a blow-dry before you dash out the door, a trick (or five) to help you skip that hair wash would be handy, right? Well the hair experts backstage at the autumn/winter catwalks thought so too. It seems a little grease is perfect for creating this seasons hottest looks, from slick pony’s to dishevelled waves – dirt is de rigueur…
In your kit: Sweep your hair into a low side parting using a large brush such as the Shu Uemura Art Of Hair Paddle Brush £39.80. Gather the sides of your hair and twist towards the back of your head, next gather up the rest of your hair and roll into the nape of your neck and secure in place with bobby pins. To finish, slide statement Kirby grips onto just one side of your parting, we love the silver Hershesons ‘Pin Me Down’ Hair Grips, £6.
In your kit: smooth a couple of drops of L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil £10, through your hair to add a luxurious shine and control flyway’s. Next, using a good quality bristle brush such as the Mason & Pearson Medium Pure Bristle Brush £85.99, create a side parting, and scoop the rest of your hair back into a low ponytail.
In your kit: starting at your temple, add soft waves throughout your hair with a curling tong such as Babyliss Loose Waves, £30. Next, spray a paddle brush with hairspray, we love L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Lumiere Hairspray £6.49, and brush through your waves to soften them. Sweep your hair over to one side without creating an exact parting – you want it to look messy and rough. Even better, let a few strands fall across your forehead to finish the look.
In your kit: matte hair is key to this look, so soak up greasy roots with a generous sprinkle of Toni & Guy Casual Sculpting Powder, £7.19. Next, back-brush your hair all over to add a roughed-up texture, we love the Kent Back-Combing Brush LBC1, £9.05. Simply finish by loosely pulling your hair back into a simple pleat and hold in place with a couple of bobby pins.
