Three Ways with Plaits

Plaits (or braids) don’t just look beautiful, they are practical hairstyles for any summer activity from festivals to weddings and beach holidays. Inspired by the spring/summer 2012 shows TIGI Global Creative Director Nick Irwin shows you three ways with braids... 

The three step-by-step plaited hairstyles will work with most hair textures, but you'll get a different look depending on your hair type. Your hair will need to be below your shoulders.

The Look: A plait twisted and pinned to look like a knotted bun. This is an easy look to create.

Best worn at: A really versatile look this could be worn at weddings, nights out or even on the beach.

You will need: 

 Salt Spray

Hairdryer with a diffuser

Soft bristle brush like a Mason Pearson

A bungee

Clear snag-free hair elastic

Kirby grips

Hairspray

Onto dry hair spritz a light mist of Catwalk by TIGI Session Series Salt Spray (£13.95) to give the hair guts. It will also bring out the natural texture in your hair. (If you’re styling the hair from wet, use mousse on the hair before drying in with your hairdryer and fingers; this will enhance your hair’s natural movement).

Use a hairdryer with a diffuser head to promote even more movement in the hair.

Lift the hair at the front while drying, so it doesn’t sit too flat at the hairline. This will ensure your finished look is natural and not too contrived.
